Ioannis Orfanos

Senior Advisor, Green Value Associates; Partner, Arbitrage RE

Ioannis is an experienced investment management and commercial advisory professional with more than 15 years of combined track record in real estate and green infrastructure.

He has originated and structured a series of value-add real estate and sustainable development investments. He has also advised on the creation of sustainability benchmarking databases in commercial property portfolios.

Ioannis is a Partner at Arbitrage Real Estate and he is splitting his time between London and Athens. He works closely with private equity and institutional investors to assess, structure and manage large-scale real estate investments in commercial and hospitality sectors as well as high yield green growth opportunities in Greece.

Ioannis is currently also a Senior Advisor in Green Value Associates and a Funding Expert Evaluator under Horizon 2020 related to energy efficiency finance and smart cities innovation programmes. He has also been a Sounding Board Expert at the Energy Efficiency Financial Institutions Group (EEFIG).

In 2015, he became a Commercial Advisor to the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). After its merge into the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), he acted as a commercial advisory team leader until May 2019 and oversaw commercial advice on energy transformation and clean growth investments such as energy efficiency, smart metering and EV charging.

Ioannis has been mentoring start-ups in clean tech, energy ICT and low carbon real estate. He was also for a few years in the Management Advisory Board of Fabriq . In the past 3 years, he is lecturing in graduate courses on energy efficiency finance and policy making in London and Athens.

In the past, Ioannis worked for Europa Capital in London, where he oversaw development investments valued more than €200m in Europe. He also worked for Deloitte in London, where he undertook advisory roles focusing on real estate management strategies and capital programmes. Ioannis has also worked for Citigroup in Rome.

Ioannis has studied Civil Engineering in NTU of Athens and holds an MBA from ESCP Europe in Paris and an MSc from University College London.
